SKY express inaugurates direct flights from Athens to Tbilisi

AnnouncementDec 12, 2024

As part of its strategic development, SKY express launched its first direct flight from Athens to Tbilisi on Wednesday, November 6. The new connection operates three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. With its state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo & A321neo aircraft and an average age of just 3.5 years, SKY express's fleet reaffirms its commitment to innovation and service quality, remaining the youngest fleet in Greece.

The addition of Tbilisi to the SKY express network marks a new era in air connectivity between Greece and Georgia, as it enhances Greece’s connectivity with one of the most rapidly developing regions of the Caucasus, offering high-level travel options to passengers. The launch of this new direct connection is the first of several new routes the company plans to introduce in Eastern Europe.

In early December, SKY express completed the integration of seven new destinations (Amsterdam, Vienna, Yerevan, Istanbul, Prague, Tbilisi, Tirana), reaching 22 international destinations with direct flights.

On the occasion of the first flight, Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express, stated: "Our collaboration with Tbilisi International Airport is a significant milestone in our strategic development in the Caucasus region. The new direct flight of SKY express strengthens our presence in the area while responding to the ever-increasing demand for travel between the two countries. The large Georgian community in Greece now has access to affordable, high-quality, and comfortable travel options, further strengthening the cultural and economic ties between the two countries. At the same time, we look forward to welcoming passengers from Tbilisi to Athens and, from there, to the largest domestic network served by SKY express."

Tea Zakaradze, General Manager of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, stated "This year marks a remarkable milestone for aviation and Tbilisi International Airport. We are thrilled to welcome a new airline, the Greek carrier Sky Express, which has officially started operations from our airport. Sky Express will offer flights to Athens three times a week, enhancing connectivity between Georgia and Greece - a route of great significance to us. Furthermore, Tbilisi International Airport has achieved notable growth this year, with a 21% increase in European routes and 30% overall annual passenger traffic growth. Currently, 57 airlines operate from our airport, including 13 offering direct flights to European destinations. These achievements underscore our commitment to expanding connectivity and improving services. We are confident that 2025 will bring even greater success."
