Warsaw has a long and rich history that attracts visitors from all over the world. The city was founded about 1,300 years ago near the Vistula River and has since emerged as a cultural and economic center of Europe. During the Middle Ages, Warsaw developed around the castle of the Dukes of Masovia, in a small area. In the 14th century, it became the capital of Poland and gained an important position in trade and the arts. During the 18th century, Warsaw went through various conquests. However, in the 19th century, it was revitalized and became a city of culture and science. During World War II, Warsaw suffered heavy destruction as it was occupied by the Nazis. Despite the destruction, the city underwent a remarkable restoration after the war. Today, Warsaw is a modern city combining its traditional heritage with modern architecture. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its medieval alleys and stone-built buildings. The city also has impressive museums, such as the Warsaw Museum, which tells the history and culture of the city through art and exhibits. Nature lovers can enjoy the city's gardens and parks, such as Lazienki Park.
